Russ McLean is a retired educator currently living in Halifax Nova Scotia with his wife Sheila (Lomas) McLean. Their two sons, Alex and Nick and grand children Cash, Polly and Ida also reside in Halifax. He was born and raised in New Brunswick and grew up on a small farm in the village of Cambridge on the Washademoak lake in the lower Saint John River Valley. He is a graduate of the University of New of Brunswick where he obtained a B.A. in history and of Concordia University in Montreal from which he holds an M.A. in American history. He also holds an M. Ed. from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
Russ has taught in New Brunswick, Quebec, Nova Scotia and overseas. The latter half of his career was spent in various leadership posts at the school and district level. His last adventure in education was a sojourn in the Middle East where he was high school principal from 2003-2006 and Superintendent from 2006-2015 of the American International School of Kuwait an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.
Russ has dabbled in writing throughout his career and in addition to publishing various articles he co-authored two history textbooks currently in use in Canadian schools: View Points: An Inquiry Approach to World History Since 1945 (Prentice Hall, 1993) and Atlantic Canada In the Global Community (Breakwater, Prentice Hall Ginn, 1998).
